A COPY OF A LETTER FROM THE DESK OF MAJOR B.E. FERGUSON OF THE BLACK WATCH GENERAL HEADQUARTERS INDIA, regarding the strange story of Lieutenant Philip Stibbe who was shot and wounded and left behind on expedition in Rangoon to wait for the Japs or death or from the single Karen Riflemen who disobeyed orders and stayed behind with him, the story continues that long afterwards news filtered through that the brave Karen had been shot and that the Officer was last seen desperately ill in a Japanese Prisoner of War Hospital, the letter is written to Lieutenant Stibbes father describing his sons bravery and what a sad loss and how disheartening it was personally for the Major, however what he did not know is that Philip Stibbe had recovered, returned to England and was living in Leicester and that the brave rifleman who was known as Maung Tun was alive and well and living off his own patch of land in his native valley, this made the monocle wearing dandy Brigadier Ferguson, one of the best D.S.O.s of the Burma Campaign the embarrassed idol of the Karen Mission, included in the four page letter is a newspaper cutting describing in full, his faux pas together with a 1939 dated LETTER OF CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION
