A SET OF FOUR MID 18TH CENTURY IVORY COUNTER BOXES, each box ornately decorated in engraved line and polychrome, with dancing figures, flowers, insects and birds, various stained ground colours, each box engraved on the inside cover Mariaval le jeune a Paris fecit, these boxes contain various counters believed to be necessary for playing a card game, probably reversis an old Italian card game, the basis for two popular 18th century games, Hombre and quadrille, the boxes are 8cm x 5.7cm x 2cm and contained within a pink fabric lined, possibly shagreen covered storage box,19cm wide
