A LARGE POLISHED BLOCK SPECIMEN OF LAPIS LAZULI, whose blue colour is pigment known as ultramarine, from the Latin ultramarinus (beyond the sea), as it came into Europe to be used as an Artists pigment from the mines of Afghanistan via Italian traders in the 14th and 15th centuries, 19.5cm high, weight approximately 5,820g.
