A JAPANESE TANTO (knife or dagger) Meiji period (1868-1912), elaborately overall carved ivory handle and scabbard, the handle with birds amidst blossoms, the scabbard with figures at work in a stylised landscape believed to be tea picking and leaf drying. The scabbard is missing the Kogatana (small utility knife) which would have fitted into the outside of the scabbard, overall length 29cm, blade length 19cm
