About us

BIGWOOD FINE ART AUCTIONEERS has a pedigree dating back to the 19th century, and a wealth of experience.  We are regarded as one of the Midlands' leading Fine Art Auctioneers.

The Old School saleroom was opened in 1978.  It is as an impressive Victorian building providing an ideal character venue for our weekly sales of antiques and collectables.

Each year, a calendar of over 50 sales is arranged.  These sales can be viewed on our own website and, for specialist sales, are also hosted by the saleroom.com, which ensures prime worldwide coverage.

Stratford upon Avon is located in the heart of the UK.  It is the birthplace of William Shakespeare and home of the world renowned Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Stratford is just 9 miles from junction 15 of the M40 near Warwick.

Personal and professional service of the highest standard is at the heart of the philosophy of our directors and staff.  We endeavour to handle all client matters with the care and attention so important when buying and selling goods and personal possessions.

Proprietor, Christopher Ironmonger, has over 45 years of experience in the auction business and has conducted auctions of many important collections.  In the 1980s, he was responsible for the sale of the Harry Ellard Collection of Collectors' vehicles which was performed on behalf of the Executors, and the auctioneer for Compton Verney on behalf of that Estate. In 2015 he and Mark Ashley were responsible for organising a major three day sale known as "The Felix Dennis Collection" on behalf of the Executors of his Estate. Celia Ironmonger has over 30 year of experience in the saleroom and is responsible for our Wine Sales which are held every three months.

Mark Ashley senior Valuer and Auctioneer has over 30 year of experience and is now one of the experts for the BBC series "Bargain Hunt".

It has been our pleasure to host numerous auctions with BBC Bargain Hunt, Flog It, Antiques Road Trip and other similar programmes.

Bigwood Fine Art Auctioneers act for many firms of Solicitors and Bank Trust companies, providing probate valuations, and selling both general goods and large collections for deceased Estates.

Valuations are undertaken for Probate, Family Division and Insurance purposes.
